Kansas City Renaissance Festival

If you are looking for a display of martial arts and environs of medieval knights come out to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. There are wandering minstrals, authentically costumed villagers, even the occassional damsel wandering the countryside.

View performances on any of the 12 stages located throughout the festival grounds. There are shops for arts & crafts as well as many different types of food.

Come back to the 16th century.

Voodoo Festival

July is very festival busy

The Mandeville Seafood Festival starts today and goes through Monday. The food and music are going to be terrific.

Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana will be hosting the Natchitoches-NSU Folklife Festival July 15th & 16th. There will be Blues, Cajun, Country, Zydeco music as well as cultural demonstrations and childrens activities.

Also on the weekend of July 15th, the Swamp Pop Music Festival will be in full swing.

Cajun Heartland State Fair

Well, here we are half way through the Cajun Heartland State Fair with 4 more days of rides, fun and food.

The music this year is great as always. Friday night, June 3, 2005, Wayne Toups and Damon Troy & Hunter Hayes with Louisiana Beat begin playing at 7:00p.m.

Don't forget about the petting zoo with the pig races and pony rides, the Artist and the Chainsaw Artist.

It's chicken chasing time in the country.

The Mardi Gras Carnival season is upon us. The days from twelfth night (January 6th) to Mardi Gras (this year February 8th) are the traditional time for Carnival celebration.

In Louisiana, while the larger celebrations of New Orleans generally get the attention of television and newspaper reporters, some of the small town celebrations are worth the experience.

One of the rural customs is a Courir. A Courir is also called a Mardi Gras Run. A group, or krewe, will meet and go from farm house to farm house and ask for ingredients for the traditional community gumbo. The farm family will usually give something they can spare. In the case of a chicken, the fun starts when the farmer tosses the chicken out for the runners to chase.

The chase builds quite an appetite.
